The DFRobot Gravity: SFA40 HCHO Sensor is a high-precision electrochemical module designed for accurate formaldehyde (HCHO) monitoring in indoor environments. Built around the industry-trusted Sensirion SFA40 chip, this sensor delivers reliable measurements across a 0–1000 ppb range with a low detection threshold of 20 ppb and an accuracy of ±20 ppb.

Unlike conventional gas sensors that react to common household smells, this module features an anti-interference electrochemical design that minimizes false alarms from alcohol or perfumes. An integrated SHT4x temperature and humidity sensor automatically compensates for environmental changes, ensuring stable readings in real-world conditions.

With its Gravity I2C plug-and-play interface, the sensor integrates easily with Arduino and other microcontroller platforms. It is ideal for smart home air quality systems, automated ventilation, air purifiers, and portable health monitoring devices where dependable formaldehyde detection is essential.

Advanced Electrochemical Principle for Specific HCHO Detection

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
