Have you ever thought of smart gardening? Do you wish to use technology for taking care of your plants...Why not? So we have a smart gardening tool for you, the new Grove – Moisture Sensor v1.4.

The sensor is very easy to use. Just insert it in the soil and read the date from the sensor using ADC. It consists of 2 probes that allow the current to pass through the soil and obtain resistance values to measure soil moisture current. It can decide whether the plants in your garden need watering or not by detecting the moisture of soil or to judge if there is water around the sensor.

This sensor can be used to automate watering plants. You can use it for botanical gardening and consistency measurement. Let your gardening be smart with the sensor’s technology and let the plant in your garden be able to reach out for human help when they’re thirsty. So buy it now and make your gardening work smart!

For all Grove users (especially beginners), Seeed Studio provides guidance PDF documents. Please download and read through Preface - Getting Started and Introduction to Grove before using the product. This is a suitable product for not only Grove users but also all electronic enthusiasts. So, why wait? Buy now!

Note: This sensor is not hardened against contamination or exposure of the control circuitry to water and may be prone to electrolytic corrosion across the probes, please use it for PROTOTYPING ONLY.

 Features:

  1. Soil moisture sensor based on soil resistivity measurement
  2. 2.0 cm x 6.0 cm grove module
  3. Grove compatible interface (u-blox version)
  4. Easy to use

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
