The Adafruit CAN Pal - CAN Bus Transceiver is a versatile device designed to bridge the gap between microcontrollers with native CAN peripherals and the CAN bus network. It converts 3V logic level signals to the differential signaling required by the CAN bus, making it perfect for projects like robotics, sensor networks, or automotive applications. Compatible with chips like the ESP32, Teensy 4, STM32, and SAME51, this transceiver facilitates reliable communication over long distances in noisy environments. Operating at speeds of up to 1 Mbps, the CAN Pal allows multiple devices to communicate efficiently, with automatic retransmission in case of message collisions. It’s an excellent tool for expanding your CAN bus network and ensuring smooth, collision-free data transfer.

Features:

  1. CAN Signal Conversion: Converts 3V logic to CAN differential signaling.
  2. Wide Compatibility: Works with ESP32, Teensy, STM32, SAME51, and other CAN-supporting chips.
  3. Networking Standard: Ideal for robotics, sensor networks, and noisy environments.
  4. Long Range: Suitable for long-distance communication.
  5. High-Speed Communication: 1 Mbps message rate for reliable data transfer.
  6. Easy Expansion: Simple to add new nodes to the network.

Package Includes:

1 x Adafruit CAN Pal - CAN Bus Transceiver

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
